3rd Baltic Conference on E-Health
on September 16, 2009, in Hamburg -
Under the Patronage of Ulla Schmidt,
Federal Minister of Health, Germany

New: Pre-Opening Session at UKE on September 15

The third Baltic Conference on E-Health took place on September 16. The primary aim of the conference - featuring the topic “Cross-Border Healthcare” - at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce was to provide a cross-sector forum for healthcare providers from Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

The Baltic Conference on E-Health presented a well-balanced mix of best practices and strategy-oriented presentations from various countries. The participants including representatives from hospitals, governments, health insurance organizations, service providers and media had the opportunity to exchange views and experiences among all those involved in health management. "To learn from each other - to work with one another" was our joint ambition. The conference program focused on following topics:

  1. Cross-Border Healthcare (experience and knowledge transfer, best practices, interoperability/interconnectivity, globalization, business intelligence/consulting and quality management)

  2. Optimization of clinical and business processes as well as of hospital information and communication systems in order to increase the quality and economics of patient care

  3. Telemedicine

The conference did not only include several presentations and workshops but also an exhibition of international IT solution providers and a pre-opening session on September 15 (starting 14.30 h) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). Here, we had scheduled guided tours through the “new UKE” (Europe’s most advanced hospital), various presentations, a panel discussion and the official reception for our international and national attendees.
